I actually got my hands on his passport once, when he needed it photocopied - he said if I lost it he would use a small kitchen knife on me and it wouldn't be pretty I dread to think how he'd react if he lost it

More painful apparently, but leaves less of a visible mark His passport must be very precious!

My question is this, as he is in the ADF and is now due to apply for his citizenship (having served 90 days in the Australian Army) is it actually necessary for him to get a replacement? We have a scanned copy of his passport, luckily, but does he need it to apply for his citizenship?
My daughter lost her British passport here, too and luckily we had a photo copy of the photo page and visa page and that was alll she needed, got her citizenship without having to replace it. BTW, we tried to inform the British Embassy and the local police station, neither were interested.
