Lost UK Passport here in Oz - implications?
My very clever OH has managed to lose his passport. We are totally baffled as to where it is, but anyhoo. My question is this, as he is in the ADF and is now due to apply for his citizenship (having served 90 days in the Australian Army) is it actually necessary for him to get a replacement? We have a scanned copy of his passport, luckily, but does he need it to apply for his citizenship?

I could sell him a French passport, mind you he would have to chop his legs off and shave his head

What's he going to do if he needs to travel soon? That would be my first thought - its a long-drawn out process of applying for citizenship waiting for approval, then ceremony, and then applying for the passport. If he needs to travel in a hurry in the meantime he's going to have problems.....

Not usually, I think other photo ID is ok. Don't know whether he is likely to need to travel back home for any reason though - unless ADF can fast track citizenship it could be up to a year before he gets an Aussie passport........

It'll turn up in the last place you look anyway! Not taking up Bernie's offer of a secondhand French one then?
