Default Looking for Work Life Balance

Hi Guys

I thought coming to Oz would give me the work life balance I have been looking for infact it has been totally the opposite.

I am more stressed now than I was in the UK without the help of parents etc.

Does anyone know of any good franchise opportunities or websites that maybe worth taking a look at please?

I am sick of working to the grindstone...

Moan over.

Are you looking for work/life balance - or just lots of money for little effort/stress/etc. ?

If the former, then you'll accept lower wages for less hassle. If the later, then you'd better be working for yourself in a biz where money grows on trees. Either way, I'm not sure franchises will cut it.

Might be worth looking at http://www.meetup.com/ for groups local to you in the startup arena.

I am amazed how many times I have heard people say they came to Australia for a better work/life balance. The problem is there are 24 hours in our days and most people work at least 8 hours a day so in both countries that leaves 16 hours. Some travel less distance to work here, others less in the UK. Some work more hours here and others more in the UK.
A franchise could mean you end up working even longer hours.

If you needed your parents in the UK to achieve that balance - how was it ever going to work without them? Oz is not a meal ticket - it is just another restaurant.

I think we work harder here, but fortunately we did not come over looking for a different work life balance so it wasn't a shock.

Why do you think a franchise would provide work life balance though? I would have thought running a franchised business would be extremely challenging.

I was a Subway franchisee until this year.. Don't do it. 24 hr a day stress...

Subway is struggling world wide, I expect it to be gone from the UK within 5 years unless there's a miracle.

Stranger things have happened. Look at Jesus - started out with a small loaves and fishes operation, and now it's a multi-billion dollar industry.

That's interesting - there seem to be more Subways than McD and HJ now

There's about as many down here, but there's hardly ever anyone in them! Opening a franchise is one thing, but keeping it open is another

Even little old Kalamunda has one. I took my son in there for lunch a few Saturdays ago and it was pretty busy.

Franchises/businesses are tough. Not an option for someone who wants less stress.

And that's half the problem. They would literally open one in the same street as another, there's no territory rights at all.

Vat has killed it in UK. Originally given zero rating the hmrc then decided it was fully vatable..

They've just opened one near me. And the 2 in the city within walking distance of my work are always lined up out the door every time I go - even when I try to avoid the rush by going at 11 instead of lunchtime.

They do seem to be everywhere.

Do BK, KFC, McD etc have zero VAT rating in the UK?
