Looking for Scots.

Hi.

Going thru the process of moving from Scotland to Oz.

Is there any one on this site from Edinburgh area who is going thru the same thing?

Just wondering because it's hard to talk about future plans to the people who we're leaving behind.

Hi to everyone that's already moved.

Steve.

Thanks for replies.

We're also hoping to move to Melbourne area cos wife wants snow on mountains. Have just sent docs away for TRA approval so don't know how long it will all take.

Hope sooner rather than later.

Hope to see you all for a beer in Melbourne some day.

Cheers.

Steve.

We are from dumfries and hopefully of to melbourne this July.

Know what you mean about not being able to talk to the people you are going to be leaving behind- it can be very difficult at times :)

We kinda liked the idea of mountains and snow as well and also not so hot. We are hoping to find a rental in the Mornington peninsular or Frankston
for the first year or two.

Took a few weeks to sort out the various paperwork and references then took a few months to get my nursing assessed by the australian nursing board.

Visa application went of at the end of Sept 05 and came through this week.

Feel as though it has taken forever anyway :) :)

Hi Steve
We are from just outside Edinburgh and have recently got our Visas. Off to Melbourne in about 2 months time.
It took us 11 months from start to visa and that was for a STNI 137.

You will find the answers to many of your questions on this website but sometimes the problem is knowing the questions to ask.

If we can be of any assistance drop us a note.

Another local couple are also in the early process of applying, we could start a self help group....

Happy researching

Don

Congratulations on getting your visa.

Our assessment for registration with nursing board is just getting done now..so still plenty to do.

Thank you- it still hasn't really sunk in.

I think the nursing assessment gets done a bit quicker now than when mine was processed - also they seemed to have a bit of a hiccup with mine and I think they sort of forgot about it. It only came through once I had given them a gentle reminder of who I was :)

Hi there,
We are from Glasgow. We are hoping to move to Melbourne this year just had ours meds done 20th March. Know someone who had his meds done in February and he had been told to send his passports to get his visas put into them, so it doesn't take as long as it used to. There is a good thread called Scottish lassies day oot! If you have another half we are all meeting up and going to Dundee on 15th April for a drink and a blether. Met up in Glasgow in January really good laugh and good to get together with people in same position. think there might be a meet for everyone ie partners and kids so everyone can get together.

PM me if you are interested.

Hopefully with a lot of Scottish going this year to Melbourne and we all get our visas it would be a good idea to keep in touch when we get there and help each other.

Sandra

We're near Falkirk, hoping to go out end of the year to either Adelaide or Melbourne (depending on which visa we end up with).

I agree with Sandra - get your other half to come join us in Dundee in a couple of weeks. When we met in January, none of us had met before but we had a real laugh.

Thanks for all replies.

Didn't realise so many Scots moving to Melbourne area.

Hardest part is waiting for paperwork and trying to decide where to live.

I'm a biker so i need good roads, but also want somewhere to learn to scuba dive.

Anyone know where about they're moving to.

People who are already there. Where's the best place to live for kids?

We have 2 boys aged 4 & 5 and have never been to Melbourne before, so we did loads of research in here (which is great) and other sites, and found that in Mornington peninsula (SE Melbourne) there are plenty of nice areas which are great for kids. Our first choice was South Frankston (still possibility) but prefer Mornington. We will just have to wait until get there and check out for ourselves, we are renting serviced apartments, or a caravan for first few weeks to allow us time to look around at areas and houses. I sort of had the area picked out before we even decided to go ahead with our application.

Have a look here

good luck in your search

Hi steve,

We're from Dumbarton and are hoping to move to perth in December/January. We are a 138 visa so maybe its a bit optomistic. Acknowledgement received by DIMIA on 9th March so now the wait. We have relatives in Kinross, Perth and went there for a holiday over chistmas and new year and loved it. We knew we would and thats why our assessment had already been sent to TRA before we left for our hols. It would be nice if we were there before the schools start back in February after their summer holidays but if that doesnt happen, then whats another month or two!!
