Lookin for cars in Oz
In Oz, is there an on-line type autotrader like here in the Uk to search for cars?? OH wants to know what he'll be looking at in his price range as we understand second hand cars are more expensive than here.
Thank you

I probably should have warned you to pour a large drink before you have a look though I couldn't believe how expensive used cars are on Oz. We are actually taking our car with us - after doing the maths, we would break even if we sold our Honda Prelude in Oz - not that we will though as it's immaculate and we couldn't afford to sell it here and replace it with the same spec there. Not to mention that my OH is obsessed with it - although I have to admit I like it too!

don't forget that you wont get as much for it as you think if you sell it there, cause it's imported.

Actually Amanda with no salted roads, cars tend to die before they rust in oz.. also when my dad imported a car to oz it was rusty as hell when it arrived from the shipment and being weeks out at sea in the salty air!

HI
I think your better off going to a reputable car auction and move t it that way and with your $5 K of import costs you might well be close to or just over $10 K - you can get a three year old Ford Falcon for that !
I would not import a car to Australia unless it was a classic you are only putting off the problem rather than dealing with it and cutting your losses now - it will become a liability at some point for you.
Kind regards
Chris

Remember to look at cars twice the size and engine of what you would drive in the UK. Seriously.

I know....so parts aren't a problem - not like shipping something French or Italian!! It's a 93 vtec 4ws - immaculate condition, including a re-spray that was only done last year, not to mention the 550 quid stereo. I contacted a specialist insurance company for imported cars, as I'd heard that insuring them can be tricky - not a problem and cheaper than it costs here to insure it. The insurance company also valued it at 14,000 dollars (and they tend to under estimate so they can pay you less if you need to claim). If we sold it here before we go, we'd be lucky to get 4,000 dollars for it so when you add the import costs and duty etc, the total bill to ship it comes to about 5,000 dollars - we won't sell it, but if we had to once we got to Melbourne, we wouldn't lose money on it. If we did sell it here......have you seen what 4000 dollars will get you in Oz - a pile of rust with no history! Even if we were losing money on it, we'd probably still take it as we have had it years and know there is nothing wrong with it.

There's a 97 (newer shape than yours) with 87,000KM on the clock (about 50,000miles) for $13K you'd get 10% off that easily.
As others are said, its only worth importing a vehicle if its an old classic or maybe if its a relatively high value vechicle thats about 1or2 years old and is a European Manufacturer.
just found a 92 for sale $6,700 146,000KM...
