Default Long Term Health Care loading waiver

Has anyone seen whether the proposed waiver for 12 months on age loading when taking out private health care has become law?

There was a little about it last month but it has all gone quiet since then.

I don't think so.

I rang Medibank Private about it about a month ago.

I wouldn't hold your breath though. My advice is sign up as soon as you can as there are waiting limits for treatment ranging from a few weeks to a year depending on the condition.

If this law does ever come in there is always the change it might be retrospective and you'll get a rebate, or at least a premium reduction.

I spoke to someone in Health about it, and it is coming (supposed to have been in place beginning of the year), but its doubtful if it will be retrospective. You will be able to get the waiver, but will not be able to claim back the LHC already paid.

Thanks both.

There does seem to be an Aussie procedure whereby they announce measures then backtrack or put them on the back burner.

Let's try and keep an eye on this one!
