Default London Skilled and Parents Visas to Move to Australia

We have been advised that 1200 general skilled visa applications that are in London and which have not yet been assessed are to be transferred to Adelaide this month in an effort to expedite visa decisions.

And all Parent visas currently in London are to be transferred to the Perth Offshore Parents Centre.

There are more details at these two news pages on the Go Matilda website:

Probably of interest to some ...

Alan
So they are doing to the London caseload what they've already done
with Pretoria. Let's hope the applications won't take 5 months to
arrive.

This does mean that those applying now or recently to Adelaide will
probably have to wait the full 50 weeks, while Adelaide clears out the
cases from London, Pretoria and wherever else they decide to transfer
applications from in the next few months.

Jeremy,

I was hoping you wouldn't say that, although it was pretty logical an assumption.

Oh great!!

Does that mean we will have to wait even longer now?
We applied June 2001 Skilled Ind - London, and considering that they are
processing May 2001 I really thought that the wait was nearly over. Or do
you think they may leave a June's to be done in London seeing as its the
next month for processing anyway?

Will the applications go to the back or the front of the queue?

Feeling bloody miserable now!!!!

Jo

I know this will come as a blow to some, but it sounds like good news for London applicants. It has been very fustrating hearing of people applying November to February who has got their visa's when ours went in much sooner. I only hope it's not just a different delay.

We applied September 2001

I'll reserve judgement for a little while.

I know exactly what you mean.
ALthough we haven't had to wait anywhere near the same amount of time, we went into this beleiving we would be fast tracked and be spared some of the waiting.
We were hoping that as we returned our medicals prior to the fast tracking stopping that they would just do the last few bits and complete ours rather than just putting us in a pile in date order - looks as if this was wishful thinking.... ....
Good luck

Dear Alan,

Good news for people who have been waiting on London for ages (hopefully).

If they put a hold on all application already at Adelaide, will it include STNI apps or will they continue to be processed?

Grateful for any info you can provide.

Cheers,

Shelly

I'm guessing here, but I would think Adelaide will continue to process
applications with an STNI nomination, and nurses of course. And
possibly other applications they've had for a year (if any).

Adelaide will also have the annual peak of onshore graduate student
visa processing in early 2003.

Other applications I suspect will probably have to wait a while.

You will have to wait for London to write to you. It's possible your
application has already been assessed, in which case they'll close it
out. Otherwise it will go to Adelaide. The advantage of that is that
it will be at the top of the queue there and I think there are more
people working in Adelaide on skilled applications than there are in
London.

Much as I'm pleased their intentions are to speed things up for us, I am concerned. Will they airfreight the applications over there. That's quite a big load...

I was about to send off updated Police checks within the next 2 weeks. Should I hold fire or send them in the hope they get attached to the right file?

What about medicals, these will be a year old soon. Will Adelaide honour the extension to be valid for 2 years which was what we were advised by London AHC.

Your thoughts would be useful
Regards
Mash...

I think that's right Jeremy - those whose applications that are in the
London caseload that is transferred will get priority over those whose
applications were submitted to Adelaide - and rightly in my view seeing as
how their applications were submitted earlier.

Best regards.

While I'm glad that (hopefully) this will help those in the London queue who've been really badly treated, it's yet another blow for us ICT applicants who applied to Adelaide earlier in the year.

Already we've suffered the loss of ICT skills from the MODL (reduction in points), the rising of the pass mark to 115, the scrapping of the ICT fast track and now being pushed further down the queue.

All of these things may be justified but to have so many changes over such a short time-span is very confusing and worrying and you'd think that they'd try to get periods of stability in between the constant tinkering with the system. I think any system which advertises certain tems and conditions should deliver on those based on when you applied and not have your application buffeted by the winds of change constantly raging through the OZ immigarion process.

Actually, DIMIA has not changed the system much, if you consider what the rules of the games were:

1) MODL points have always been awarded when applications were assessed. This is a published fact.

2) The passmark changes did not affect any applications lodged prior to the date of effect of the change, so it's quite fair.

3) DIMIA cannot be held accountable to the ending of ICT fasttrack, as fasttracking is a seasonal feature, if you may, of the system.

The problem is that because the time-span is so long, the rules that are in place at the time of assessment may be totally different to those when you applied and the more things that change in the interim, the more frustrating it becomes.
