Personally, I would think over all it's hard to compare living costs from one country to another, particularly when the cost of living differs in the country itself. Eg where I live in the US (NC) the cost of living is a lot cheaper compared to say California, so I would imagine the same could be said for Australia.
I've had family members (who lived just outside London) try and compare the cost of living here in NC to where they live, but as we live in a cheaper state you can't really compare NC to the London area. Maybe New Jersey or New York state. As such I've found you need to compare like with like otherwise the comparisons of "living costs" won't work.
So with that in mind what part/cites in Australia could you compare with say London, Bristol or Edinburgh? etc etc and how do those cost of living compare eg housing/utilities/salaries etc?
