i like many others went through a pink floyd phase and rate them as average musicians and really on the face of it boring to watch live unless you really 'dig' their music,

people who rave about them still are stuck in a time warp and refuse to embrace the fact that mucis moves on...i started going to gigs when i was 15 and now 18 years on i have been to nearly 200 gigs seeing everyone from slipknot to prince, motorhead to jamiroquai and like i said pink floyd are boring live they do nothing just stand there and go through the same old routine and rely on lights and special effects to heighten the atmosphere and thus making their music more enjoyable........

amen.......
1,queens of the stone age songs for the deaf ok not heard lulabies yet
2 whites stripes ten nation army brill! not heard new shit
3 elvis!king
4 razorlight not one of my faves prefer bloc party ,doves(****ing brilliant)
5 embrace HATE EM
6 velvet revolver contraband! will give them a go
7 jamiroquai same old same old(boring to me as floyd to you perhaps)
8 slipknot **** no wait and bleed wish they would
9 motorhead class

stuff i`m burning for work
1 doves some cities
2 bloc party singles banquet(fantastic)
3 interpol antics

I have most of the other CDs you mentioned, all great.

As far as your comments about aging hippies, well, I got into them about a year ago, and I am 29 now.

Went to see a Floyd tribute band a few months ago, and they cemented my new found love of Floyd. Great atmospheric music, but I can see why its not to everyones taste, it is definately an aquired taste.

Have to agree.....acquired=refined perhaps?

Been a fan of PF for many years......the CD collection posted above reminded me of the fact that a lot of today's bands cannot play live for toffee. Dave Gilmour does one thing, thats play Fender Strat like no-one else on the planet. No need for showmanship - the music speaks for itself. Mark Knopfler.. Carlos Santana.. Eric Clapton.. All boring live???

I was a fan of The White Stripes and Razorlight until I saw them at Glastonbury this year. They were 'awful', to be honest and I was gutted. Elvis Costello on the other hand, who I've never liked, blew me away as did Athlete, Doves and K T Tunstall. All about being 'in the moment' I guess and that only comes with experience and raw talent. A lot of new artists have neither.

Pete Doherty's performance with Elton John at Live8 is case in point.......what an ar5e he made of himself, but then that's his style. Lyrically brilliant, musically talentless........only reason Pete is so popular currently is because of his much publicised drug abuse in The Libertines, his prison time, and the expectation in the media that he will pop his clogs very soon, catapulting him up as yet another rock martyr who died before his best material with his new band, Babyshambles. What a load of b*llocks.

Anyway, good thread....long live the Floyd. They deserve extra meals on wheels rations for that little shindig.

any of the above floating your boat?
kings of leon - love em seen em twice
placebo - love em seen em once
morrissey - would gladly poke him to death with a twig
doves and bloc party - do nothing for me
killers - ok a bit overated like the kaiser chiefs

jamiroquai just wanted to see him do deeper underground live but struggle to listen to a full album...

new white stripes album - pure class

kasabian - fan******tastic saw them in brum and they stole glastonbury for me

razorlight must admit i wasnt a fan at first saw them support the manics last year but the album is a real grower some class tunes on there

slipknot - again just wanted to see them

green days album also good fantastic live saw them in january

loving the new transplants album and the ordinary boys

went to see audioslave the other week so i having a soundgarden/rage against the machine appriceation period aswell

i think festivals can give a false impression of bands especially new bands but to see a band in a hot sweaty club with about 1000-2000 people is a different ball game altogether.

Cringe value... 14 out of 10.....!!!
I agree, that was a shocker They obviously hadn't rehearsed together and were each going off on their own tangent. I am surprised the channel 9 broadcast it, I would have thought they'd be too embarrased.

Rage Against The Machine are one of my all time favourites, talk about "Raising Awareness". Anyway take away Zac de al Rocca and replace him with that quoiffured ponce from Soundgarden and they are transformed in to one of the shittest bands in the world - strange?

Did you go to the Brian Wilson gig in Kings Park last summer?
I've been to 100s & 100s of gigs, but I can honestly say that it was the best one I'd ever been to in my life!!

The guy is an absolute musical genius.
(John Lennon's words, as well as mine.).....
For you, (baggie) to slag someone like Brian Wilson off as part of your boring moanathon about Floyd, shows what very limited musical knowledge you possess.....

I didn't, no. Would have liked to have gone, just didn't get around to it, shame, I already regret it. "Smile" is a work of genius.

Don't want to rub it in Renth, but what a night you missed.
The gig was in 3 sets, & the second set was the entire, "Smile" album from start to finish!
At the end of the, "Smile" set, there was a standing ovation which lasted for 15 minutes. And then everyone remained standing for the rest of the gig!!

Fantastic stuff!!!

Yes, it was me that said it. It was a disgrace. I'm not a fan of Craig David at the best of times, but what kind of muppet can screw up such good material. I felt like throwing stuff at the tv when he started trying to rap in the middle of it.

I like "Craig David" on Bo Selecta, with the northern accent and the owl.
