Liquid Smoke
Back in sunny Blighty, I was never more content than creating culinary master-pieces of the meat variety on the old charcoal Weber. Now we're in Oz, in a nice apartment in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, I have had to downsize to the locals preference of a gas barbie :frown:
I've tried everything to get the flavour of a proper barbie, but sometimes I just want to whack a quick steak on and not worry about smoke boxes etc, and so I really wanna try the liquid smoke, trouble is I can't find it anywhere. I've looked in the usual Coles n Woolies as well as the IGA but I haven't got a clue which section it'll be in and the staff don't seem to know either.. any clues from other frustrated canivores??? |

You can buy proper smoke boxes and chips at BBQs Galore. You have to soak the chips for quite a while so they don't burn but they give a lovely flavour to fish and chicken in particular.

Re: Liquid Smoke
I have a recipe that calls for liquid smoke. It's just not the same without it. I was going to get my sister to send me some over since I can't find it in any of the stores either.

Re: Liquid Smoke
I've got a bottle of liquid smoke but for the life of me I can't remember where I bought it from:confused: It's fab.:D I just sniff it every now and then but I probably shouldn't have admitted that
Edit: Whatever shop it was I'm fairly sure it was with the sauces. Whoa!!! brain storm! Just remembered, it was in a really good butchers. If you want I can get a bottle and send it to you. Let me know. Actually just noticed you're not far. It was in the butchers in the Easy Q Centre at Mermaid Waters, along Burmuda Avenue. |
Re: Liquid Smoke

Thanks for all your replies, MoneyPen especially, as I found myself working about 5 mins from Mermaid today and so popped into the butchers and now I'm the very proud owner of a bottle of liquid smoke, thanks!!!

I've just been on the USA food site. I can see a trip to Melbourne coming up for me. One empty suitcase on the way there and one very full suitcase on the way home.
