Agree with everyone else its low, but you'd probably find many do have to surivive on it, its not an uncommon wage here at all.

You will find most families with any sort of mortage require the second partner to have at least a part time job, unless the main wage earner is on a really good wage. Its a tricky balancing act tho, second job often means another car to support and childcare, like anywhere it can be a struggle.

Many Australian couples would kill to have the equivalent of 100 pounds deposit towards a house :scared: , -assuming that the money is for that-
I agree with most posters: it isn’t a high salary BUT if you have made your mind up and you are definitely coming to Melbourne, I would say that a 37,000 job is better that NO job. Your standard of living may not be amazing but, it is doable. It may be better to take it while you build some “Australian experience and then look for a better one. It would be awful if you didn’t take it because the wages seem too low, and then find yourself unemployed for a while.
Best wishes.
OZMX.

You're right Badge, but with stamp duty on a house of say $235 they would end up somewhere pretty shocking :scared:

But on a positive note, its certainly better than nothing and also being employed in Aus is a sure fire way of getting another, better paid job a few months down the line!

But then again, they would have the $12000 first home buyers grant for this first house which will mostly cover the Stamp Duty so it needn't be that shocking....

well small houses in Berwick can be bought for 250k ish - I think - stamp is what 10k on that? I agree with you though and say that you need 300k for anything half decent though.

(Personally for what we wanted you need 300-350k)

Thanks for all the info, the missus will have to get herself a good job then.
We will be renting for a while anyway so we can get a feel for the area, and perhaps save a bit more money.
Judging by your responses it seems you all earn plenty of money and have a very high standard of living. We also enjoy our creature comforts, and would love our move to OZ to be everything we have dreamed about!

Hi Hevs!

just to discuss your point - not only in Aus but anywhere....we all tend to say the same thing, having a job pays the way until another better one comes along. But what if it doesn't .....I had to live with a car salesman for two years! :scared:
