Default Licence to work as a plumber

Can someone tell me what are the minimum qualifications needed to obtain a licence to undertake plumbing work in Australia?
I am a DIY plumber who just wants to do my own plumbling in Australia but I have been told that, unlike in the UK, all plumbing needs to be done by a licenced plumber. I would therefore like to get this licence in Australia.

A 4 year apprenticeship is your only option.

Can anyone now tell me whether the apprenticeship needs to be full-time, and who actually issues the licences. Also, is there any scope for getting past qualifications/skills excemption?

Where are you heading as all states have different rules and different licencing authorities.

Licences are issued by QLD government, see this site on requirements to be issued a smart licence. I have no idea about the process, so if you don't get any answers from here then send them an E-mail
