Default Leicester the new home of Football?

Game was a non event but looks like English Football has come home to where it belongs a city of sporting people?

THE Burberry brigade were out in force at the Walkers Stadium last night.

That particular distinguished check has, over the years, become synonymous with everything that is dire about the England team and its followers.

Be it in Dublin, Marseilles, Charleroi, or most recently the Stadium of Light, there has always been a strong representation of numbskulls sporting the now infamous Burberry cap.

Yet in Leicester last night, that very same clothing brand was in evidence - although it was middle-aged women wearing scarves of that brand.

That summed up the atmosphere of this friendly against Serbia and Montenegro.

Rather than sit in the Press box last night, I headed to the stands and watched the game with the supporters and, thankfully, there was not a bonehead in sight.

But there was not a sound when the visitors' national anthem was played - something that everyone inside the ground should take credit for although, if we are being realistic, you get the feeling the Slovakians will not receive such respect at Middlesbrough.

Steven Gerrard's opener got them going for a while and even when the visitors scored on the stroke of half-time, everyone was applauding around me.

Included were those two young lads who were sitting to my right and they were having the night of their lives, sitting with their father and not in the slightest bit intimidated.

Of course, you wish it could always be like this.
