Hello,
My family are thinking of moving to Melbourne, for work reasons. I am looking for an Eastern suburb with slightly larger blocks (800sqm+) but still commutable to the city by train and without a hefty pricetag.
Just looking for any ideas.
Thanks.

You would probably have to go a fair way out to achieve that. The suburbs immediately surrounding the Dandenongs are affordable and getting out into the 'bush' a little bit but still very much suburban. I'm thinking of places like Croydon, Kilsyth, Mooroolbark, Boronia etc.
These areas are about 25-30km out from the city but also close to train lines.

Thanks for that.
Looking at the train timetables its only 30-40 mins commute, which is certainly doable. I will start with those areas.

You could also look around the edges of the Dandenong Ranges. Belgrave is the last train station - which would be about an hour. I live in The Basin on a 1000sqm block and commute into the city three times a week - the express is around 45mins from Boronia (5 min drive).

Thanks. I will have a look. Need to balance longer commute with having a nice home and not being completely bankrupt by costs.
