Default Laptop use - how best to connect?

Hi all,

I'm coming out to Australia in December to work as a nurse for an initial period of a year. I will be staying in hospital accomodation so will not have access to a phoneline but want to use my laptop for email.
Whats the best way to go with this? I thought about the Vodafone PC card but think I need a residential address to get an account.

Also thought about using bluetooth and my mobile phone. How easy would this be to use my existing handset, get a sim that supprts GPRS and connect this way? Is this a reliable way?

Anyone who has any advice I would be most grateful, I am a first time laptop user anyway so finding it all a bit confusing.

Thanks in advance
Maz

Where will you be? If in Sydney forget GPRS and go for www.unwired.com.au or iburst. It is wireless broadband using mobile phone transmitters. Users in other states will have to update on the availability of wireless in their area.

Is there anything similar in Perth? I use BT openzone here. You can get wireless access all over the country... serveral pubs and Mcdonalds included.

Both look quite smart, shame they use either a brick sized modem or a
iBurst branded PCMCIA card and not a standard wireless laptop card.

Guy I work with has been using it for a couple of months no problems. The deals look quite good if you can't get adsl for whatever reason. And you get a wabbit too!

Only if you need mobile use otherwise go for ADSL as it is cheaper.
