Re: LAFHA Eligibility?

Hi,

Just a quick update on LAFHA. The government have indicated that they are about to radically change the eligibility criteria on 1 July, and if you read the LAFHA Blog you will see that while the public face of the government is saying that it is making it fair for everyone, the Department of Immigration is saying that as of 1 July LAFHA won’t be paid from a reduction in tax, rather, it will make employers pay it. I’m not sure this will sit well with employers because one minute the government is helping them bring in skilled workers by allowing LAFHA, and the next it is not helping employers but hitting them in the pocket with in some cases a requirement an increase the salary of 457 visa holders on LAFHA by up to $20,000 a year.

This has a long way to run, but I would not count on receiving LAFHA on 1 July, because if the government puts its changes through, you will not be eligible.

Regards,

Ian
