Korean airways doing cheap flights from brisbane
Fares about $500 cheaper than usual being offered on certain dates. (Flight split up with overnight in Hyatt in Seoul)
Taxes are around $300. Singapore/Qantas etc now want $550 - 700 just for tax.
But searching this forum nothing much on korean. ???? That sounds bad
Airline quality. com has them as 4 star (same as qantas).
Has anyone actually flown with them.
I am guessing terrible is that so?

Hi
I flew to Brisbane from UK with Korean a few years ago. They were fine. Same seats as most airlines, movies etc. Didn't have the seat back entertainment units but that didn't bother me too much. The meals were good too - a choice of a Korean dish (stir-fry thingy) or a 'western' meat and 2 veg. Overall, I'd say they are at on a par with Qantas etc except for the entertainment units. Definitely worth saving a few dollars!

They have a very poor safety record.
The pilots are all ex military and have been criticised for their 'macho' attitude which has led to a number of crashes.
There was a crash in England (stansted Im think) a few years ago. A cargo 747 came down.

There was also a crash at Guam a short while before that:

Although I would never normally agree with Grayling, on this one I must.
As well as what Grayling has said, apparently their maintenance is poor. The last crash they had out of Stanstead was down to that from memory.

Re: Korean airways doing cheap flights from brisbane
I've just done some recurrent training at work (BA). We usually go through various airline saftey culture.
As Grayling said bad safety record and macho flight crew. We were also told that out of 30 plus airlines in Asia/Australasia region they were 5th worst for safety.
They were suspended from codesharing with other airlines in the mid/late nineties because of their cost cutting (ie not de-icing when needed, broken O2 mask etc etc).
However having said that they have massively improved although I wouldn't say they are up to Western safety standards just yet. Great improvements in the cabin though.
BA staff are not allowed to fly on Korean Airways for any duty travel.

The are supposed to have improved, but I think on balance I'd rather fly BA :scared:

I am afraid their record ain't good, but they are improving in terms of crew training and procedures, new aircraft being added to the fleet... But i still wouldn't fly with them either as passenger or pilot. Not enough trust yet.

ha ha and you feel safe with Qantas! They have the min legal crew on there 747's, thats why you have to wait so long for your dinner service and they have the nerve to slap on a fuel tax
Check out http://www.airdisaster.com/ they have a database of all plain crashes.
Korean Air have a rate of 5.38, thats 5.38 "Events" per million flights.
BA have a rate of 0.32
Qantas seem to have a rate of 0 so maybe I should take back what I said above
Oh and the worst plane for accedents is Concorde!

I would never fly Korean due to the fact you have no idea what they are putting in their "stir fry thingies". They have a reputation for eating dogs, I would be worried if they served me anything with meat in it in case it was somebody's pooch.
