How long is '4 terms'? Is it 4 days?
Cheers

A term is what schools use, so there are 4 terms of about 10 weeks each a year - the rest of the time is school holidays. C&K hours are 9am - 2:30pm and they do a 5-day fortnight as heldownunder mentioned.

C&K are great but not practical if both parents work as you'd need care during school holidays etc. They're not a childcare centre so you can't pick up later than 2:30pm or drop-off earlier in the morning. Most childcare centres run a Kindy class too and the hours are flexible and they run all year. I believe most (if not all?) have qualified Early Childhood teachers. They are more expensive $70+ a day? but you do get the rebates but not sure if you'd qualify for those or not?

Wow, down here in Geelong, my DD was $200 a term (Kinder Association run by parents). My DS is hopefully going to go to a private one (purely logistical reasons) and that is only $100 more a term.........

I think the Vic one's are partly govt funded and possibly shorter hours?

FYI, Some C&K's run a day care programme outside of school hours.

No, I wouldn't qualify as we will be on 457 visa. I don't really mind as we got LAFHA in our contract. The hours would suit us as well - my wife is pregnant, due on 1st April, and generally will not look for a job for couple of months anyway. I wanted to make sure that I could afford some sort of nursery for my son while we arrive. It seems that as long as there are free spaces this will be the option for us.

That's good then!

If you know which area you will be living in I would suggest contacting local centres now to see if you can put your name down. I know in our centre all places for 2012 have already been offered and accepted but this may not be the case in all centres.

Good luck!

I get the rebate, but did actually think it was means tested, same as the CCB...my bad :o

Its way better now because they rebate it straight to the provider now, so my out of pocket is way less, none of this stupid waiting for the 1/4 for pay back business :)
