My son will be 4 year old in June 2012. I will be on a 457 visa in QLD and was wondering what are the costs, session times etc. for kindergarten.

I have a few friends with kids in Kindy and they all pay about $75 a day for Kindy.

Shit Brisbane is expensive. We pay $125 per TERM!

Is that a private kindy, or a govt run one?

Kindergarten means different things in different states which is where the confusion comes in - in some states it is the first year of full time school, in others it is the part time year before full time school and in others it is the name for child care so it is useful to know exactly what service is being requested.

The first year of full time school - usually up to around $100 a term "voluntary contribution" in a gov school, other schools can range from around $3k - $20k pa depending on the school and its status

Year before full time school, depends on the state, could be anything from $0 to $85 per day

Long stay child care usually around the $80 per day mark

Private kindy. Apparently hard to find or get into a government run one. These kindy's are the ones for the years before proper schooling begins.

Kindy is the year before prep. (when the are 4) Some places do a three year old programme, but not sure as its worth it.

Ours goes to day care which is $65 a day (but we get the childcare rebate off that which will depend on your earnings, its a sliding scale) Flynn gets two days of kinder, with a qualified kinder teacher from 9 am till 3pm, then he goes back into the day care centre. This works really well for me because I can work for those two days. Most council run kinders are fiddly sessions say from 9.30 till 12, 4 days a week, and its just to hard if you work.

I think you'll find that this is a private day care centre that runs a kinder programe?

The 50% childcare rebate has no income test...you're prob talking about the chidcare benefit which does...do you not get the 50% childcare rebate as well?

We are in Brisbane On a 457.
Our sOn goes to a private nursery at the cost of $63 per day 7-6pm and you have to provide food. On a 457 there are no rebates :-(
Government kindys are 9-2.30 ish on a 9 day fortnight
Ie 2 days one week 3 days the next in the time - these are about $25 perday and can be tough to get into.

Our son Is at an excellent day care as I am beginning to work again so kindy hours dont suit. Some daycares have qualified preschool teachers - a must i feel!

As soon as you know where you want to live get your sons name onto waiting lists- even our sons daycare has a waiting list... Though it usually costs $100 to do so...

Most "kindy" now pre-prep classes in South East Queensland are through C&K. http://www.candk.asn.au/

C&K costs vary as each centre sets their own fees - this year I have paid approx. $550 per term (4 terms).
C&Ks are hard to get into though so you'd normally need to have your name down at least a year in advance.

Wow, down here in Geelong, my DD was $200 a term (Kinder Association run by parents). My DS is hopefully going to go to a private one (purely logistical reasons) and that is only $100 more a term.........
