Default Kids need a British passport?

Wanted to confirm that my 2 kids need British passport based on following details -

I'm a dual citizen born in UK living in Aus
Wife is an Australian citizen only
My two kids are 3 and 6 both born here in Aus and have Australian passports.
Does that make my kids automatically British citizens and will need British passports for when we go to the UK in August for a holiday?

Thanks

Sam

Certainly sounds as though they’re dual citizens, so yes.

Good luck.

Agree with above. Born after 2006 to a British citizen (not by descent) they re automatically citizens. They don’t need to apply for citizenship just their passport.
Heads up you will need your parents full birth certificates as well as yours to apply. So start getting those sorted.

Getting a British passport is optional, it just makes things easier as proof of citizenship later on.
On what basis are you saying this? The children are UK citizens therefore they cannot get an ETA without lying on the application. Getting past the airline check-in with just an Australian passport depends entirely on the level of knowledge of the airline staff. If the father is travelling on a British passport and the mother has an ETA then the airline may well question the status of the children. The real answer to the OP is that the children need British passports.

Depending on the OPs ability to produce the required documents (as per Rammygirl in #2) there should still be time to obtain them starting here: https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports
Recent experience of the Passport Office is that they handle applications very efficiently.
