Just a quick query.....
Hi all,
Apologies if this has been answered a thousand times before but I've had a look through the many threads and couldn't find the answer, if there is a thread please point me in the right direction...
Anyway my question is: Am I wasting my time applying for jobs in Australia without yet having the right to work in Australia?? I suspect the answer is yes, but then I thought surely you need a job to get a visa??? ....thought I'd ask anyway.

Your answer is yes...mostly. Almost every employer will want to interview you and will want you to have the ability to work legally in the country. I think the only exceptions would be if you had some prior relationship with the company.
As for the visa question, you dont need a job to apply for a visa, unlike most usa visa where you do. If you are qualified and have experience in your job you can apply for a proffsional visa and then come over and find work. Or if you wanted to see the country first you could come over on a easy to get temp work visa, travel around a bit and see where you like, but that one would limit you to only working for an employer for 3 months I think it is.
So there are a few options,

it' hard even when you have your visa if applying from UK unless in healthcare or some very specialist areas.

I agree - most dont want to know until you are physically present in Australia, and then they go through the visa stuff after that and they like you.

It depends on what you are planning on working as. If it is a industry / position that might get you sponsered on a 457 visa, then you have to find the job first. I hadnt even though about visas when i was offered the job in Australia
