Re: Just been to Coles
I ordered pretty much everything online at Tesco! I was expecting a lot of things to be out of stock but they had it all!
I ventured into M&S last night to get bread, milk and some Aussie Wine we like and it wasn't too bad! I work in a West London dept store and it is manic most of the day! I work on Perfumery which makes it even worse! Ppl cannot even get a parking spot, they're stressed or they've left everything to the last minute. The Christmas spirit has slipped somewhat - but I try and remain happy and polite, wishing ungrateful, rude shoppers a 'lovely Christmas'! :D I work till 9pm tonight and then right back there tomorrow morning for 8.30am! I miss my Aussie Christmas's where things were more chilled! Susan |

Re: Just been to Coles
We have just spoken to a shop assistant here in the UK and she was saying that they haven't had the usual large crowds like previous years. I think many many peeps are now waiting for after Christmas to get all the bargains instead. Makes sense when everything goes half price or less. Or as I think all the prices are overpriced because of Christmas and then go back to the ordinary price just to shift stock. The sales are starting earlier and earlier. I hate going shopping amongst crowds and avoid it as much as possible. To me its bliss be able to shop when it's quiet.
I know its nice to have a traditional cold Christmas but I miss the 'champagne ' breakfast we used to have outdoors when we lived in Africa and can't wait to be able to do that again. It was so laid back. |
Re: Just been to Coles
I remember the whole easier shopping experience from last year.
This year, I've been remarking on how much easier it is to do your shopping when the weather is warm and how many more options there are for works parties. I'm starting to see a lot of the advantages to the summer Xmas. Obviously I do have a slight yearning for cold Christmases drinking mulled wine in front of the fire looking at the snow falling all around. Funny thing is though, I used to get that yearning in the UK as well. |

There's a giant ASDA in Small Heath which is still packed to the gills at 9-10pm; on many occasions I have turned up in the hope of grabbing a few bits and pieces after work, only to find that every checkout has at least 10 or more people queuing at it. Average time to get in, buy a tiny handful of groceries and get out again: 40 minutes. Why on earth people are still buying their everyday needs at this hour of the night, I will never know. I have concluded that it's just another symptom of Britain's hopeless overpopulation. |

Got my prawns last night. No queues. In and out less than 10mins and that included grabbing a load of crap i dont really need! After my stint with the salvos tomorrow, when hubby gets out of work, we have decided to go sit on the beach, eat prawns, mince pies, copious amounts of grog and watch the sun go down. Heaven :D |
