We are planning to come out on a student visa for my husband to study. If he studies a post grad course I will get full time working rights. However we would still be on a temporary visa. I have looked at job adverts on web sites and they state "must have residency". Does anyone know if this means permanent residency? Could I face problems finding work as I will be on a temporary visa?

You'll be ok to pick up casual work (I think only 20 hours a week each though). But casual work can be the norm out in Aus, can do the same job for years and not be taken on as full employee. Just don't be fussy what you want to do and you'll be fine!! (well if you can live on 2 part time wages and international student fees to pay)

I know you cannot work in a permanent position for the govt in Queensland unless you have perm residency or are a citizen. The only way round that is to find a temporary post. I know some employers will consider those on temp visas if the post is temporoary e.g. maternity cover.

At the agency I work for the only temp visa holders we place are those on spouse, defacto or prospective marriage visas. The student or working holiday maker visa holders usually won't get placed through us unless they have extrordinary skills.

Really, so you wouldn't place anyone on a temp visa? I would have expected to get some kind of contract/temp work especially as I would have full time working rights.

I think you only get 20hrs each on a student visa as we have been looking into this route also ??? (That is for the person on the course and the partner of the student)
I think the only time you can work full time is in your college holidays ?? Have i read wrong?
