Can't speak for other states, but in Vic you need to be registered.... Essentially that means you going to an education provider, and passing an exam. It costs an arm and a leg.

The building industry here is completely corrupt with the building commission being disbanded. Go to Www.theage.com.au and search building commission and you'll see what I mean.

Loads of work out here, although I did read last week that the goverment were thinking of stopping most work visas as there have been so many tradies coming over.

If your willing to work, you wont have any problems, not just in regional areas but city areas to.

Definitely depends on where you are looking at, Brisbane for example is very slow as are other major cities around the country. Perth is apparently fairing better than the Eastern cities.

To me it sounds naive to attempt the visa if after all that legwork and hoop jumping they make you do plus the costs to find later work in pipefitting is in short supply even in remote areas, so I was just asking if it was as busy as they make out over here

Sounds like a fair enough comment to me, numerous threads on here sayhow much slower it is getting tradie work now than it used tobe.

RUBBISH. Chris is offering nothing but his personal opinion based upon hearsay. his hatred of Australia shines thorough again and the Mods allow it.

Nothing wrong with getting your visa first and then seeing what the employment prospects are at that time. It will take long enough to get it anyway.

Job prospects ebb and flow like the tide, all over the world. Once you have a visa though, you can calculate whether the time is right to move over etc...

Dont worry about it seriously, I am very used to his personal vendetta against me and it matters not one bit. As you say it is common knowledge how things for trademen have slowed down.
