I think if you look at numbers 4 and 5, for some Perth is the antithesis of this definition. For others it isn't.

Hi all I'm sorry if the word paradise has up set everyone, all I was asking for was some advice,

Stevenglish
Yes mate on the visa 457, all of this has come round v v quick so me and my family are still a bit confused in what needs to be done first.

Good schools in Perth, good hospitals locations as my son had a bone marrow transplant so he still needs follow up care, rentals, shops, doctors.

HELP.

Princess Margaret will most likely be the hospital you will be going to which is in Subiaco, almost central Perth. Have you looked into the medical costs you may be required to pay as a follow up to your son's medical condition. Where is your job? Perth is a City of well over 1 million people spread over a very large geographical area so I am sure you will understand we need a few more specifics to answer your questions.

Can't help you on the Perth bit as I'm in Wollongong, but ask your employer about LAFHA, living away from home allowance, essentially your rent and food money is taken out before tax and then reimbursed, can make a fair difference to your income. Also you'll have to get private health care and that's not taking into account your boys follow up care.

Hope this helps a bit, I'll try to dig out some info for you

I must have missed the office email telling me that he had been promoted.

Have you looked into health care costs? Reciprocal Medicare is for urgent treatment, so would not cover follow up after a bone marrow transplant and you may have a problem getting private cover for a pre-existing condition. However, as has been said before PMH is the children's hospital here in WA. There are also private hospitals if you have private insurance or don't mind paying out of pocket.

You may also want to consider whether your son would pass a medical if you decided to apply for PR down the track. If he has a condition which would require long term or expensive medical treatment there is a chance he wouldn't pass, which means all of your PR is denied.

One more thing...If you go to the "search this forum" link on the top right hand side of this page you can put in words such as "Perth" and "schools" and "suburbs" and you're going to find literally hundreds of threads asking the same questions.

We are expats living close to bayswater area for 6 years. Is your company paying for schooling? I can send u information. My daughter is at Perth college which is 5 minutes from bayswater. This is an elite all girls school and we are very happy with it. Send me more information and I will send you back more details. Michelle
