Jetski advice

I've conviced my fiance not to import a kit car, but he's now decided we should get a jetski... any advice on the best one to get for 2 people?

Cheers!

Re: Jetski advice

Best advice is don't get one at all - they are a bloody nuisance

Re: Jetski advice

Don't worry.. it's not on the Gold Coast or anything to ruin divers' pleasures - only Melbourne! Seriously though, do you mean nuisance to others or to owners? Should we opt for the kit car?? :)

Means a nuisance to everyone else - I agree in spades! Yahoos zooming around offshore "showing off" (although why they should think of it that way is beyond me) ruin it for everyone quite apart from the danger to the swimmers.

Don't ruin our fun, we're very civilized really!

Certainly wouldn't DREAM of showing off

Love ya babes

P.S I'm in charge so there will be no hooning allowed Lx

A lot of people who get them find they are a bit of a white elephant. Great for the first couple of weekends then it's pretty much 'hmm, not much else you can do on a jetski is there'

Someone told me that you need a license for a jet ski so it may be another thing for you to look into.

This is another State run thing:

Victoria for example quotes:
Recreational boat operators under the age of 21 years and all operators of Personal Water Craft (PWC's), more commonly known as Jet Ski's require a licence.
http://www.biavic.com.au/sections/ma...lay.asp?pid=15

QLD:
From 1 January 2006 to operate a personal watercraft (PWC) or jet ski you must hold a PWC licence. You must hold a current and valid marine licence, before being able to get a PWC licence.

Yes I am when you consider most of the ways they are operated (and I said MOST, not ALL). A lot of operators appear to have no regard for other water users or beach users for that matter - and no, I'm not a beach user. When you watch them on the likes of the broadwater, I'd defy any of them to spot a swimmers head in the water at the speeds they go at. About time they were licenced and I'm pleased that has happened in Qld now

I know what you mean about having no regard for other water way users. We were at the beach yesterday and this guy went past on a jet ski and on the back he had a woman in a bikini. Not once did come close into the shore so that I could have a closer look...........

If you take binoculars to the beach you'll find that you don't have that issue again.

I've looked into getting one too! ....what's put me off though, is that for the same money you pay for a good one, you can buy a boat, on which you can do far more than you can do on a jetski.

...as far as the licence goes, the local Jetski shop informed that it's basically a safety coarse more than a test, and most jetski shops can provide the course in the purchase of the ski!

Enjoy! :D

Mmm, like the boat idea... what would I have to be forking out for one of those then? Can you get one for under GBP10k?

We're living in Haywards Heath (in the sticks) at the moment. Nice place but a bit, er, 'quiet'.

It all depends what you're looking for! ....have a look on ebay, as they have some bargains on there! You can get a mansion on water for $18k (same price as a new four stroke jetski). ....and if you're willing to do a bit of work on one, you can find one really cheap!

Yip-you could afford a nice 16-18ft "near new" bow-rider for that.

Bow-riders are great-very versatile and lots of fun.

Didn't upset me at all mate - seems to be you who's getting worked up  thread wasn't about 'jetski's and fun' it was jetski advice and my advice was don't get one - surely you didn't expect the only advice offered to the OP was "go out and get the biggest and best one on the market" I agree a boat would be better - already got my boat handlers certificate in the UK and will most likely end up with one here. My OPINION of jetskis, obviously sways my ADVICE on Jetskis - surely you wouldn't rob me of my opinions or my right to offer a view? that wouldn't be relaxed and laid back of you at all would it?

Re: Jetski advice

I would of said as powerful as you can, say 1000 cc or better, you can tow a donut with someone on with that size. Also consider insurance, etc. At 18k or whater you could probably hire one for the day from a local company and save some money. Unless of course money is no problem. Invest the saved money in a beach buggy.... lots of fun....http://www.muddock.com/VWBeachBuggy.htm
Good luck and go for it,
