Talking Jelly

Why is it that every make of (powdered) jelly I have tried fails to set properly? Some sort of set but go watery as soon as I take them out of the fridge. I've tried adding less water. Should I give up and learn how to make it from scratch? The ready made stuff just isn't right either

I only ever buy the British brands of cubes that you dissolve, which always work. They also have natural colours and flavours, unlike the main Australian brand.

Usually in the independent shops (not Coles or Woolworths). Here in WA I get them in some IGAs and Farmer Jacks, as well as in any British food shops.

Exactly - some things just don't seem right, like powdered jelly and beef sausages.

The thing about jelly crystals is that you eat them from the packet - yum! Never had a problem with them setting.

A naughty little boy at my house does the same with the jelly cubes and I have to hide the packets away.

I admit to eating the jelly cubes. We even got some sent over because we (me and girls) thought we were missing them. Had a cube each and the rest of it sat in the fridge for about six months as we realised we weren't missing the stuff as much as we thought.
