Default JAJ, PtLabs - question on forum format

Why is it that sometimes there is a "general" reply button at the bottom
of a thread - allowing a reply without copying anything - and sometimes
not. In the latter case you have to click on an individual message
"reply" and either accept the page filling up with copied material or
spend time deleting it.

Seems faitly random whether you get the "end"
reply button or not.

Hi Rog

There is a "post reply" button at the top and bottom of every
page which does not give other threads for you to delete, to delete any
you do have, just right click-select all and then start writing your
message, one second, couldn't be easier.

Here, it's mainly there all the time, but over on the Oz applying
for Visa area (can't remember the exact name!) I never get the 'Post
Reply' button

Yes, for some reason you have to quote the previous post - it wont let
you just "Reply"! :(

AFAIAC it is just you!

Never yet noticed what you
point out (is this a wind up?!!!), ie if you go to the bottom of the
page there's always the chance to reply without quoting another post.

The problem seems to be on the 'immigration' forum.

You have to quote a
previous post to reply.

At least I have to.

Isn't that a Usenet
forum, though (not a BE forum)? Quoting a previous post is part of the
Usenet saddo-protocol.

No that's on the normal BE 'immigration'
forum. It does not give you the option of replying without a quote
(which you can, of couse, delete).

I
think the Immigration forums 'belong' to Usenet and BE feeds into it, as
opposed to (say) the Lifestyle & Culture forums which 'belong' to BE.
(That's why there are rarely Usenet posters on the L & C forums.)

Therefore BE insists its members observe Usenet saddo-protocol by
quoting the message they refer to in their answer.

Avoids upsetting
those saddo Usenet people.

That explains it.

I can think of many more
important things to wind someone up over than this, believe me!

Just
gone over to the Immigration side - and yes, it does appear on that one.

Annoying that I'd never noticed which posts were affected before.
Thanks all.
