as long as you are not reinstalling windows 7 you'll be fine.

In this setup utility page?

Under advanced it refers to Legacy USB Support and that says enabled, should I disable it?

Back to booting from CD.... If that doesnt work your stuffed. IE change bios to boot from CD

Set Bios to boot from CD insert windows 7 and reboot computer.... if that doesnt work it means your HDrive is fried.

See above.

Bang away at the F6 key during start up and see if you can get a screen that looks like the one posted above. Go to Integrated peripheral and disable the USB controller. The USB legacy support will do nothing, it's only there to support USB 1.0 and 1.5. So don't worry about it.

Aye, it is needed for older USB devices but will not affect the port itself ... I've been googling away and can't find any way of actually disabling the port.

In the absence of a Vista disc (for Windows repair) try to boot to command prompt and disable hibernation?

Probably need to know the motherboard manufacturer. The manual probably won't be much help though, they're always written in appalling English.

Boot from CD is probably ok. Just don't do a reinstall.

Yehp.... stop it if you want to keep it.

Unless you know someone that can take your harddrive out and copy it.

Sledgehammer to fix a nut is always the quickest option and it's what the computer shops do.

It says 'Starting Windows' in a Windows 7 picture thingy....now that's gone and the cursor is on the screen, or should that be CURSER!!!??!?!?!?

Curser just stayed there....nothing more happened so I've switched the bloody thing off...
