Indeed. Actual facts are very thin on the ground. But are you really that surprised at the reaction? Sadly it is entirely what one would expect.

Is it a cafe with a toilet or do you need a key to go around the corner?

Yeah, they initially reported they were from other buildings but one is wearing a Lindt apron.

Speaking for myself here, I don't need to get a handle of events, I have a good idea on what is going down here. Haven't you?

I think all major western cities, of the countries who have had an involvement with the extremists have something to worry about, not just London.
My husband presumes London as the next target because of what has been going on there lately with regards to security and safety procedures.

Who knows, nothing could happen for months, but something could happen tomorrow, it's the not knowing and this is where the fear factor kicks in.

Well more the reaction of government in falling into the hands of those with a desire to create turmoil. Every loss of a civil liberty, every new law frustrating our freedom of movement is but another win for those wanting to frustrate those freedoms.

Events in Sydney are far from clear and far removed on present information on anything to do with London.

London being a world city has always faced international threats. That city has just gone on with life there regardless. Only way to go.

Some other forums have mentioned the possibility of a training exercise.

Well drove home from the North Shore to the Eastern Subs. Harbour Bridge is no go so took the tunnel. Possibly the best rush hour drive home I've ever had. Didn't look so good coming the other way. So take the tunnel if you need to head south.

I've just seen a load of footage of the gunman. I'm no expert on snipping, but seemed like a lot of opportunity to take him down.

Well I can't speak on behalf of any officials obviously, but as someone who works on the frontline of emergency response in Queensland, it doesn't fit any training criteria that I'm aware of, and if it is an exercise.....well, words fail me for the way its caused panic and distress to the public. That is NOT the aim of any Emergency management exercise.

It would be extreme granted. As it would be an expensive exercise all round with the cost to surrounding business etc, but it could be a cost a government on the ropes, in a many of speaking is prepared to take.
Nothing like creating an emergency to harness support and drown out bad news.

I'm not saying it is but I have lived in other cities in siege situations and something points this to being played out for all it's worth.

Why not close the immediate area and get on with business? Why so far afield has been impacted?

Just a few thoughts on the matter at hand.
