Default ISP, Contracts, Bigpoo etc etc

You never know!

Does ANYONE have any idea how I can get out of a contract with Bigpoo?

I foolishly signed up for a 24 month contract in haste and am 6 months into it and cannot go on as their capping system is painful and driving me mad!! ...

They want $30 for each month I don't see it thru which is over $500 ... Money I simply don't have to throw away.

Ok, I know, I signed up for it!! ... but after just arriving in the country, not knowing that 'unlimited' bandwidth is actually 'unlimited' till you reach a certain amount! ... ... and 2 teenage kids who SOOOO NEED their MSN ... ... I did sign in haste as I say ...

Any help most appreciated.

We are in exactly the same position as you, cant believe we signed up for 2 years either ! We want to break our contract but working it out it will cost us a fortune. Will be very pleased if someone could help us get out of it as its total crap !

G'day

Just accept your losses, pay up and move on. 18 months of putting up with Telstra is just too much grief.

Default Re: ISP, Contracts, Bigpoo etc etc

is there another plan with them you can change to?? In the UK at least, you would be allowed to upgrade. I'm not sure if that would reset your contract period or not though.

Yeah, I currently have the max plan at $139 a month. I'll have to drop to the lowest plan at £30 a month to get the deal I've been quoted! ...

Seems like there's no way out so will have to just dl kiddie porn and be happy with that! ...

OK, failing the "breaking the contract by illegal activity" method ...

BigPond allows a contract to be broken but will charge a "termination fee" (far enough, otherwise what's the point of a contract?). The formula for an ADSL connection is:

$360 / Contract length (in months) x remaining months left of contract.

So ...

360/24 * 18 = $270

A bit cheaper than $30 * 18.

And here is the page:
Link

Cheers,
Matt

Ok, a tad extreme so will work on the other info you've given.

Thanks.

Just spoke to them and yeah it's $15 for every month not $30 as I originally thought.

$270 is still money I'd sooner not lose, but isn't half as bad as originally thought.

Now I just need to see if there is a TRUE unlimited ADSL provider out there! ...

I am with iinet. I get 10GB peak and 20GB offpeak downloads. I download stacks of tv shows and speak daily with family and friends on msn and this more than enough for me. I pay $59 +$30ish for their phone service. It was cheaper and I got better speeds if I bundled. If you exceed your limits your download speeds are limited rather than charged extra.

I am more than happy with them.

I am with www.wildit.com.au. $99.95 per month for true* unlimited. 1500/256kbps.

The connection is superb but the customer services is shocking - i.e. it can take several days for their messaging service to pass on your problem to the technical people.

(*I've done about 135gig per month for the past 3 months and they're now getting a bit twitchy with me, telling me to stay below 100gig or I may be shaped or have to pay $2 for every additional gig downloaded. It's still a good deal though.)

Check each ISP's forums on www.whirlpool.net.au before making any decision.

So do you have much problems with them then?

Altho I'm not happy with Bigpond's capping, the service has been faultless.

I thought I downloaded a lot, obviously not. Someone is always on ours during the day and 30GB a month is ample for us.

135gig is only ~4gig per day... it's easily done.

(Corrie, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Skint, Extras, Johnny Ross, Parkinson, Wife Swap, X Factor & Xtra Factor, Football Focus, live Champs League and Premiership games, Match of the Day 1 & 2, Lost, Prison Break. Not to mention Skype, MSN, E-Mail, job applications, etc).

I've had about 3 days outage in the past 4 months with Wild and found it impossible to speak to anyone except the messaging service. I only recommend them if you're techie enough not to need to call them for support.

Other people seem to recommend Internode, I think they have a 80-90gig per month plan for about the same money as Wild's "unlimited" one.
