Depends if you are tech savy should you dabble with naked DSL

Naked DSL on iinet is great though - $60 bucks - ADSL2+ speed, 10G peak/10G offpeak downloads only, uploads not counted, a freezone of content (itunes and tivo are free!) & free local and national calls (includes phone number - you just need a VoiP router.

Just avoid telstra at all costs - unless you are country and then you are screwed

The amount of usage the OP is talking about maybe they could go on a cheaper naked plan maybe - 49.95?

Thought uploads were counted on their naked plans. Have things changed?

Nope mine arnt counted - great!

Yes $50 gets you the 5G peak/5G Offpeak but the connection charge is higher.

Don't know how you managed to be the exception :)

"Both downloads and uploads count towards your Naked DSL monthly quota."

My usage is as below - uploads and freezone are shown separately and don't count on the "usage bar" (ie the dont allocate uploads to peak/offpeak)

peak
3,165MB used of 10,000MB

offpeak
40MB used of 10,000MB

uploads
1,486MB

freezone
280MB

Mine too. I think they show the uploads separately as their non naked plans don't count upgrades. Unfortunately, the upgrade figures are included in with the peak and offpeak figures.

If you hover your mouse over the peak usage figure (ie. 3,165MB) in the "daily usage trends" section you will see a tooltip popup that says:

"Note: Uploads are counted towards your peak usage."

Similar message will appear if you do it on the offpeak figure.

Note: The tooltip will only show in the "daily usage trends" section.

Yeah, I think it is mainly a big deal for heavy peer to peer users...

Right I am soooo confused:confused:

Not got a clue who to use, I have looked at the whirlpool website that has been recommended, however :

I have no idea how much gb I will need (all far too technical for me)

Could someone please advise an estimate from the folowing info:

I send/receive maximum 15-20 emails a day

I want to make 3 "MSN or Skype" calls a week to different family members

I don't really download music/movies/tv etc.

I want a landline so mum can phone from UK as she get free calls

I use facebook and BE daily

Then just to do some general surfing for current info

If anyone could give me an info to make my search less painful, the library are beginning to think I want to take up residency:rofl::rofl:

Cheers in advance

In Victoria Point ADSL2+ is NOT a cost effective option for you. The best you will get at a reasonable price is 8mb speed.

4Gb per month will be plenty, you may even get by on 1Gb pm. ( I did for ages till my teenager got access)

One plan with the provider I am with, would cost $ 75.90 pm for a 12Gb limit, with an 8Mb connection, same as I currently have, and which I have been happy with for 6 years here in Victoria Point.

A 1.5Mb connection would cost $45.90 with a 7Gb limit

Do you ring the UK yourself ?
An extra $20 per month gets you a 2nd telephone line with free calls to landlines all over Australia, and to the UK.

I could arrange to meet you in the library one day, and explain it over a coffee.

Re: Internet Questions

so im going to be shafted with the intnet when i get there.

i play online games with my ps3/360 and i enjoy d/l torrents :p

just how expensive is a decent d/l and u/l going to be? im going to need a large usage amount as MW2 is p2p based :sneaky: so it'll eat up the allowance in no time.

as long as it is fast and has a decent ping :fingerscrossed:

It depends on your location.

Just a few suburbs away and I could get 75 Gbytes at 24Mb/s for $39.90 pm with my supplier. I am patiently waiting for them to reach me with that option
