Default Insurance renewal - are you covered for flood?

My insurance renewal has come through and I noticed I'm not covered for flood and I'm trying to think of a scenario where my house gets flooded, and I can't.

Do you guys have flood cover in your home insurance? I'm particularly interested in finding out if you don't live near a river, floodplain or anywhere else likely to get flooded?

I guess if you didn't flood in SEQ this summer then you're pretty safe...

There are very few policies that do cover you for floods. Westpacs does, but it includes the following...

"This does not include loss or damage to :

- retaining walls, paths, driveways or landscaping.

This does not include loss or damage caused by :

- Landslide, subsidence, erosion, or an earth movements.

Not thought about it, we're at the top of a hill. Maybe I'll go look, wouldn't put it past me to have included it at the time, I did have a lot on my mind back then

I work for an insurance company & we don't cover flood, which I thought was very odd when I came 2 years ago, but after the last few months I can see why

I am covered for rain, storm and flash flood damage but not river flood damage. I think that is standard in most policies.
