Anyone can say what they did when moving a family (ie: inc' 2 young ones) to Sydney - we want to rent around Chatswood / Lane Cove / St Leonards initially but as this takes time will need to find somewhere to live for the first 2-3 weeks.
Is there decent self-catering around - are there hotels anyone might recommend with self-contained rooms? Or do you just rent for 2 weeks.......................? Anyone have any experience here?
Thanks again - nearly there.

Hotels/motels are a more expensive option, especially if you need to stay for that long. Hopefully other peeps out there can offer some suggestions on places to look at.

Also consider a cabin in a caravan park.

I can't help much with where to stay, as Mr GG's work paid for our temp accommodation, so we were put up at The York (Sydney) for 6 weeks. But I agree with the PP who said that you might need to allow slightly longer than 2 weeks to find a rental. Sydney's rental market is competitive and we definitely found we were at the back of the queue on most applications we put in due to our 2-year-old daughter. Also not sure when you're making the move, but December and January are quiet months rental wise and so it could take slightly longer to find something if you're looking then.

Perth Gumtree
If you're coming out initially without your stuff, maybe try looking in the short term section as that will be much more likely to have fully furnished places advertised.

Try youth hostels/backpackers, there are a few around, eg:

Also look up house-sitting sites, you might find something there.
Closer to the time, contact me and I'll look on local noticeboards, eg at UWA and local shopping centres. If you like, I can put in a notice in the school newsletter (school re-starts in early Feb).

Thanks one and all - was looking at some of the cabin style camps and they seem pretty decent actually. No luck on hotels in Sydney though.
Still - probably going in the right direction now.
