Get yourself a short term furnished rental for about 3 weeks, then have a good look round the suburbs, also offer a couple of months rent in advance if you can manage it. good luck

We rented a holiday house on www.holidaylettings.co.uk (other useful websites are www.perth.stays.com.au and www.stayz.com.au) - it was in Hillarys, for 4 weeks, May - June this year and cost us £840. Then after we arrived, we contacted agencies and looked in newspapers for rentals. Found a privately advertised rental, for a very reasonable price. The owners took into consideration the fact that we had just migrated and accepted the name of the holiday house's owner as reference on the form. Regarding ID, we had to provide passport numbers on the application form. Hope this helps! And good luck with the move.
