Immunisation

Hello all
I wonder if somebody could remind me which injection young children need to have before going to Australia. (I think it might have been hep B)
Thanks
Theresa

I do remember reading a thread some months back which put me in a bit of a panic and I was expecting to have to get the girls immunised before I could enrol them in school. However, they started school in November and I just handed over their immunisation records - no worries! They had all the routine injections in England and there was no suggestion here that they needed anything else. We are in NSW so I don't know if this applies where you are headed. . . .
Merry christmas! Will it be your last one in the UK? I have lost track of your progress.

Hi
I was told you had to have the children immunised up to Aussie standard to get child allowance so the kids are in the process of having Hep B which we didnt have in the UK. They have 3 shots over 6mths at $17 each.
Although I know others havent had the shots and still get the child allowance so ask at your medicare centre when you arrive.
My thinking is that if they have it over here they obviously need it! maybe I would think different if it was me having the jab!!

For Brits going to Australia there are NO requirments. Check with your local GP and he/she should confirm.

There are no implications for the child benefit if you don't vaccinate but as long as you register as a conscience objector. They just want to avoid the problem of people who are too lazy/can't be bothered to vaccinate.

In Victoria most kids will get Hep B at secondary school if they are already at primary school age, however they are phasing this out as they give the Hep B to babies now. So my middle 2 (aged 7 and 10) haven't had to have it as they will get caught in the secondary school immunisation rounds, however my 3 year old is going through her 3 jabs at the moment as she should have had it as a baby here. Our eldest had already had the vaccine in Belgium as they immunise at 15 there which is far more sensible an age. Other than that as my lot have all had chickenpox their UK/ Belgian vaccines are fine.
Good luck with it all.
Nicky
