I'm a P plater!!!

Let me say... coming to Perth without a licence was not an easy thing. Right away I knew I needed to know how to drive. In fact, Mr. Siren did too..lol That's why he sent me the link to the drivers manual and I printed it out in Canada for reading material on the plane.
Two weeks after arriving here I did the theory and passed! Problem was, Mr. Siren was often out of town on business or in town and needed the car!
So I hired a driving instuctor in June to take me out once or twice a week for lessons.
I passed my practical on Sept 7th (having waited a MONTH for an appointment because they are so packed
) and though this was a milestone, it still didn't really feel like I had my licence because I still couldn't drive on my own. (You need to rack up 25 hours of documented driving time - have a declaration signed by you, the experienced driver and a JP before you can go for your hazard test)
I decided that I would rather wait until AFTER the wedding and get my licence issued in my married name right away rather than having to change it.
Yesterday I did my hazard test and passed!! My brand-spanking new shiney licence is on the way. (They mail it to you - told me it should be a week)
In the meantime I have a temp one that allows me to drive ALONE.
So today, rather than sit at home all day while Brian plays cricket, I drove him to the club and drove home by myself!
We're off to do some shopping now
Wish me luck and safe-driving!
Siren

I took about 15 lessons but that was because I had a month delay til the test. Typically, it's between 12 and 15 (or whenever the instructor thinks you're ready.
Average cost is about $35 a lesson. The company I went with was ABBA- Fantastic!

Thanks Siren
We're paying £20 an hour at the moment, so that'll be a big saving.

Well done Siren and congrats!
I need to do a Theory test to transfer my UK license to a WA one, do you know how many Q's you have to get right to pass and did you need to make an appointment to do the theory test?
Thanks

No, no appointment needed. Check opening hours though(I think closes at 4)
All very simple, if you've done it before. You'll be fine. Get a free book thingy from policestation, read that a few times.
And there's a website where you can practice. Link on here somewhere, do a search!

Congrats Siren!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic, you must feel very free now!

Seeya soon!

Oh I really, REALLY do!! So far today been to the cricket club, Whitfords for shopping (bought myself a congratulatory handbag - it's PINK!)
Then out again to drop Connor at a friends house for a sleepover and I still have to go back and get my darling husband from the oval (after stopping for a natter with the cricket wives of course!)
I am LOVING this!!!
*I know you people who have been driving since they were 17 are rolling your eyes at this post - and that's ok - I'm just revelling in the excitement for today because tomorrow it'll be "No YOU go to the store." "No YOU" etc....
LOL

Many congratulations on passing your driving test. Soon you'll wonder how you ever managed without a car. Safe driving.

Also really interested in this post as although I drive,my husband has always had a scooter so will have to go through the whole P plate process here. I passed my test nearly two years ago so would be great to be an 'experienced driver' and tell him what to do ...he has far more driving hours than me as used to commute to London and back on his scooter - so that should be fun!!!! Must keep reminding him that women drivers are better!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriuosly though, congratulations, remember when I got my first wheels and it was great
