From: Gold Coast- the best place in the world

Hi all a first update as I am in the internet cafe at the moment ($3 for 1/2 hour!)
United Airlines- not very impressed 5 out of our 6 flight left late and the hostesses were complete dragons! The international flights were better than the internal. No seat back TV's on most of the planes. Leg room was ok though and they were cheap!! We offered to be bumped from LA to Syd as they were offering $600 US each and business class the next day. Unfortunately we weren't needed.
Virgin blue were great the staff friendly and the girl let us off all of the luggage charges even though we had 9 cases and 180 kgs!! 1hr 25 from Syd to Bris and the staff were fab.
The area is fantastic and so is the weather. It has been around 29 c each day and is managable as long as you avoid the midday sun. Beats the UK any day!!
So far so good. The Sunshine Coast is absolutely stunning, scenery is breathtaking and it is lovely to have a little stroll along the beach early morning or late afternoon. And people say hello - very strange to a Londoner.
Perusing the prices, food seems about the same price with fruit and veggies a bit less if you but from grocers and not the big stores. The Good Guys electrical stores are fab, pay 15% less for cash and trhe electrical goods are either similar to Uk prices or lower. My LG washer that was 500 pounds in Uk is $648 at Good Guys in fact I can get a 7kg washer and drier for less than 400 pounds!! GO TO GOOD GUYS THE SERVICE IS FAB AND YOU CAN MAKE OFFERS.
I will post again with more info ASAP. But honestly if you are worrying about it all, don't, it seems a great place to be, even though it is early days I can't imagine living with the British weather again. and contrary to previous posts I think the shopping is pretty good. At least you have a range of different shops here and not just all chains.
Looking forward to my first Aussie function next Sat- Polly's wedding. Hopefully we can post a few pics.

Welcome to the Sunny Coast. You timed it well it is about 10 degrees cooler than last few weeks.
Glad you liked the Good guys. Once you get settled try Erbachers in Bli Bli (food) half the price of supermarkets.
You'll have to show me all these shops tho!! Perhaps they seem different to a newbie? but they are exactly the same few shops from here to Sydney:confused :
Anyway glad you are enjoying your first two days. Australia day is on monday, Parade for the kids at buderim, followed by a fair at the primary school.

Thank god it wasn't just me who felt like that. I wondered last night why anybody wants to go to Australia highest crime rate highest asthma rate and on and on it went.

Welcome to Oz Tina!!
I am glad you mentioned the shops...here in Adelaide i like them for the same reasons you do..lots of individual stores with wide and varied stuff to browse through instead of the mundane chain stores repeated in evry shopping centre in UK... even the malls here have many different indivdual shops in them alongside the usual ones

Does make window-shopping more fun doesn't it! Every UK town is so "samey" with its shops now - walk up the high street and you have no idea which town you're in.
Variety is the spice of life!! (please note though, I'm not going to resurrect the cheese thread, but I'm not including supermarkets in this!!!)
