I, er, I mean my friend, has got some dubious 'adult entertainment' DVDs I, I mean, he needs to get into Oz. Can he put them in shipping or has to find more dodgy ways of getting them in?

For goodness sake, they are not 'adult entertainment' dvd. They are animation dub in english/japanese dialogue, chinese/english subtitle.

Don't you guys know 'Animation'

In most countries it is illegal to chip a DVD player to play DVD's from other regions. So it is probably illegal to play them, however I don't know about importing...

Touchy! Let me guess, you've had people say that before to you...

If you weren't so touchy, you would have seen I was talking about MY adult entertainment DVDs and not your completely sad collection of Jap DVDs.

well pardon me for asking, but when reading anime "animation" doesn't automatically spring to mind - and I never mentioned that it was pornographic simply asked what Japanese anime is!!

Australia is DVD region 4. UK is Region 2. I have 2 DVD players. The cheap $90 one I bought from Crazy Clarks (made in China) was all region coded so I can play DVDs I purchase on the internet on that player. The more expensive player has a block for any non region 4 DVDs.

It's not "illegal" to import DVDs unless of course they are movies that are banned in Aus.

As for chipping DVD players - most suburbs with high Asian populations will have people who will do it. My advice is take a non-region 4 DVD to the store and ask them to play it through players you are interested in. Only buy one that plays it. This regional coding thing is not popular at all in OZ. Our government actually talked about challenging it with the WTO because it goes against free trade.
