Default Ikea in Oz

Ok, no slagging off please.
As Ikea is one of my fave stores, can anyone who is currently in Oz, tell me if Ikea's there are the exact same as they are in the uk ( ie same ranges, same amount of choice )
Also, is it more expensive?

Made a HUGE change being able to go there and get straight to the till - as opposed to standing in a huge queue with masses of others for half an hour.

Didn't go there very often so can't really compare I'm afraid.

We went to the new Ikea store south of Brisbane and I'm afraid we had the same poor experience as in the UK. Having spent an hour selecting a dining table and chairs to match and being told on the floor they had four in stock, went downstairs to find that the shade we wanted had been discontinued. They had four on display upstairs but hadn't thought to remove them or even put a note over the label saying discontinued. They also have the same trick of making you walk 3 miles to get to the exit. Every time I go I say never again!

I read somewhere last week that the walk from the entrance (of the Ikea at Rhodes in Sydney) to the checkouts is 2 kilometres . That's if you follow the designated 'paths' that they herd you along. Admittedly they do have a few marked shortcuts so you can bypass some areas - but 2 kilometres!

I also went to the new IKea south of Brisbane and found it very similar to the big one in London (can't remember the name).
I don't think it was any more expensive.

Hi,

I have been to IKEA in Logan, just off from Brisbane, and what a fantastic place, nice and cheap and the stuff looks great, no too much queuing, but we did go on a sunday.

Cheers

Jo

Hi Pearl

Dont like Ikea myself but wife likes to dabble through. To be honest you could easily have been in either Asia or UK from the range and floor layout. Only difference is most shoppers are wearing flip flops.

Used to be 2 Ikea stores in Melbourne but they closed one down. Its now in Richmond just north of the yarra - good parking and easy access.

There is a new superstore Ikea opening in Innaloo (Perth) soon. I am apparently being put forward to a job there by an agency I saw the other day!

There will be 3 floors and it will be huuuuge!!

IKEA in Perth (Scarborough Road I think) is ok, much smaller than the one's in the UK. Not so much choice and yes it is slightly more expensive. On the two occassions we have been they have been out of stock of the things we wanted Their "bargain corner" is different too, everything is in boxes and you are not allowed to open them and check for damage so it's pot luck!

Being Swedish I've grown up with Ikea and love it, I've also lived in UK for nine years and frequently went to the London Ikeas!
The one I've been to (Homebush NSW) is very similar to the ones in London and having said that similar to the ones in Sweden too. Good selection and good prices.
I also love the Sweden shop outside the tills where I can find Swedish food and sweets cheaper than anywhere else!

Range seems very similar if not the same. May be a few items that are country specific, but I doubt it will be many. Prices are more expensive but not by much - I suppose the additional shipping etc all adds it toll.

I'm a big fan, and always avoided the long wait by going at night.

Ikea in Perth is very small compared to the one in UK we went to. Similar prices but less choice. Not very good so don't go much.
