We should clear the mortgage in about 6 years (unless we finds things to spend the offset on).

Hi,
just wanted to know if you include Family tax benefit in income when applying for a mortgage when it asks other income as well as wages earned? Also when it asks other expenses, does this mean food, all bills you are paying at present?or does it just mean other credit cards and loans? thanks in advance.

Yes, they do take Family Tax Benefit into account as part of your income.

Family Tax Benefit can be used as income but what percentage of it depends on each bank's lending policy. It could be 80% or 100% of the total, however it also depends on the age of the children. Above a certain age, you are not able to use the income.

Other expenses refer to ongoing (financial) commitments excluding food, utilities etc (which are automatically estimated based on the number of applicants and dependents).
