Default idiots guide to education in oz please.

Hola, not posted for a while, been a very busy boy. We are hoping to fly to Adelaide in Jan 2009 with kids ( 3 + 5). I understand that kids start school age 6 and before that attend kindy? I am looking for any info on the sessions/hours/prices and what activities kids do at 'em. Basically any kindy info at all no matter how basic.
Many thanks,
Tucker

This is a pretty good summary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Australia

From my reading, your 5 year old would be at school (6 is the age of compulsory education but they actually start school before then) - SA seems to have a continuous enrolment policy for kids starting the term after they turn 5. That would be free (well, as free as any state school education is - voluntary contributions are usually solicited)

A 3 year old would be in child care - you could try the national child care centres like ABC Learning for an example - not saying I would go with them though, they are a bit on the nose at the moment.

Good luck!
