I.T. YEARS of experiance, no quals! Help???
Sooooo sorry if this has been asked time and time again but...........
Im now 39 and I've been in the IT industry for 17yrs, but have no formal quailfications, just lots and lots of experience. Im coming over to OZ (Perth) to visit my cousin for 3 weeks in Feb, and I was thinking of banding my CV around. Would I get anywhere???
To get in, would I need sponsorship from an employer, thus the employer having me by two veg???
I'd love to hear from people who have managed to escape from this hell-hole of a country without being a Plumber, or a Spark, or a Doctor etc etc. Hopefully I can get out of here, before it becomes the capitol of Europe!
PS. Do you know of any decent agencies I can go to. Im going to PM Steve99 on here, as he has kindly offered to look at my CV.
Cheers

You cant work on a 3 month visa, and are unlikely to get sponsorship. To get a visa with a lot of professional jobs you need a degree or equivalent. Good thing with IT is you can trade 7 years (I think) of experience as a degree. You also have to write a report on how you learned your skills called an RPL Recognition of Prior Learning. This goes off the the ACS Australian Computer Society, who vet it, and give you the OK. This is what I did.
Now, you are 39, so you need to get your skates on, as age matters from a points point of view. I would see an agent asap if you are serious, and assess your options. There are lots of agent recommendations on here, but we used Global visas www.globalvisas.com, who are London based, and excellent. They advised on how to write the RPL, all the way through to getting the visa. You need to get your application in before you are 40 I think, otherwise you will lose 5 more points. It only matters when you lodge, not when you get the visa.

Thanks VERY much for the info guys, it gives me somewhere to start
And yes, I better get my skates on now, as I'll only have a year left before the big 4-0 :scared:
It'll be my first time in OZ next month, and I just KNOW Im going to love it. My cousin says it'll be near 40 degrees by the time we get there, so it should
just be warm enough for me amd my partner
Thanks again

You may be surprised actually. It does happen, depending on the OPs specific skills and the local areas demands. Our company had a Dutch backpacker drop in on the off-chance of getting sponsored three months ago and he starts in 2 weeks time!

Hi There
I too have no degree, I do have an HND in computing however this was just a good starting point in the UK many years ago. I applied for a skilled migrants visa on the basis that I had over 6 years experience in my industry. The evidence was sent to ACS who approved it and the onto the next stage of submitting my application. I have been here now for over a year and half now working away very successfully I may add in IT. Prospects have been far superior than the UK since I arrived.
I decided to put myself through the visa process with a little held and hand from www.liveinaustralia.com who will provide you a plan to obtain your visa. This provides links to the goverment forms that need to be filled out and the details around information gathering and submitting of visa papers. I think I saved myself around £2000 at least and it cost me £100 for the plan. Would deinately recommend them. It is pretty straight forward applying through the computer skills channel.
Best of luck
It is late now and few glasses of wine have been drunk so excuse the spelling mistakes.

I corresponded with the ACS for some time and it is better to phone. They do respond via email, but it took some time and sometimes does not fully answer your queries. Get your OH to phone the ACS to see what he qualifies for.

Re: I.T. YEARS of experiance, no quals! Help???
I have no degree but got here based on having MCSE and plenty of experience They accept some inducstry qualifications but not all - I can't remember the list now but it is short! Without any quals that they recognise, he can still get in if he goes down the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route. While this can be lengthy and difficult, if you know your subject it can be done with only a handful of sleepless nights.
This topic has been discussed at length on the immigration forum in the past, it might be worth doing some searches on there to see what others have done.
Good luck.

Or find a good migration agent who specialises in ACS cases.

My husband was in a similar position he has been working in the IT industry for 18 years... but like yourself had no formal qualifications as such. All in house training.
We decided to go with Glenn Newton and he is brilliant. My OH passed his TRA first time round no problems.
If you do a search Glenn comes highly recommended!
