Well we know that but HR people often don't, so will specify a degree
or MCS* - I did mine to stop my resume being thrown in the bin without
even being considered. No-one has ever asked to see my certs. (Also no
agency or employer has asked to see my visa yet).

Secondly, whether its expressed or simply implied, there is a 'not proven here' mentality amongst employers - something every new migrant needs to expect and overcome. Most migrants have to expect to take a step back to prove themselves. Once you can build up references (and the Aussies are very very hot on references) from Australia based referees, then the world is you oyster - and you'll find yourself accelerating past many of the long time Australian-based competition - because in general the experience and expertise you've picked up in the UK is either on a much grander/more international scale, or the technologies you've worked with are ahead of the Australian market.

Well put Kev. Despite not being in Oz yet or having any really special skills that nobody else has, I have had some interest because a) I made the effort to tailor my CV to the job I was enquiring about and b) my cover letter sells the attributes that do set me apart from all the rest.

Be prepared to put some work into finding work is what I say

Kev

I'd be interested to know what 'Australianising' your CV entails. I've got a pretty good CV for here in the UK and have alot of Telecoms based Unix experience.

WHat is the most effective way of looking for work, is it worth sending my CV to agencies before I leave the UK or should I wait until I have a base sorted when I land in Perth?
