I have a question
I have been perusing these boards for a number of months now and i have noticed that no one but no one is ever heading for Darwin!!?? why is this?? i asked Donna's cousin this question (he has spent a lot of time in Aus) and his reply was thus
"because it's a f**kin sh*thole"
More tea vicar!!!
Can anyone confirm this to be the case??

Actually Darwin is a great place. Its only small in number of people there, (i am guessing about 80,000 people) but some of the areas around Darwin are amongst the most beautiful in Australia.
I have photos somewhere on the web and when Siren wakes up she can find it for me
Some of the problems are the crocodile and box jellyfish so you cant really go swimming at the beaches.

Darwin is my favourite city in oz...very laid back and compact. Unfortunately, it's far too hot for me - even in the dry season, and hence I could never live there for that reason. Definately agree that surrounds are beautiful - Kakadu & Lichfield NPs are on the doorstep for starters. Very remote tho...closer to Asia than any other Oz city.
i wouldn't personally class it as a sh1thole - but I guess it all depends what you want out of a place.
