HSBC were useless ref NZ banking.

Instead when I was there last week, I walked into ANZ branch, told the guy my plan, showed him passport and Drivers licence as ID, opened an internet and telephone banking account with my mates address for post etc.

ANZ, sweet as...

The Currency sites work

Hi:

I just moved over from USA, I used the currency site: www.xetrade.com. A few faxes to confirm id and account numbers and then you can start transferring. It cost me US$10.46 to transfer about US$6600 (did that about 3 months ago). Been living on that and will be getting my AU$ income into HSBC account starting Nov 15.

W er advised by the nice lady at HSBC to organise a electronic transfer through either our bank or theirs for the money and as soon as we get the bank reference nos we will do this (has to be done within 30 days) However HSBC cost £10 irrespecive of the amount you are transferring Our Bank Lloyds TSB want minimum charge of £13 for 5 days or £15 for 3 day transfer or if a larger amount 2.5% of the amount is charged Needless to say we shall be finding a person with an HSBC bank and let them do it for us. UNLESS we can use one of the good sites for exchange rates which have been mentioned in the past and let them do it:D

HSBC - WA

I banked with HSBC in the UK for 8 years and had excellent service, so opened an account with HSBC Oz in Perth, using the International Business Centre in London, prior to coming out here.

Account was opened eventually after much toing and froing of my initial deposit cheque, it was payable to joint names, my account was in one name - but a phone enquiry to HSBC Oz had said that would be fine, it wasn't. So the first message I got from my new bank was that I had an unofficial overdraft and they charged $20 to prove it. Not really a good start.

Transferred quite a large lump of Oz dollars into it, then unfortunately lost my wallet. No card, no way to get money - bear in mind there is only one branch in Perth and one somewhere else - cant even remember where!

Cancelled everything through CPP (thank goodness), and requested a new bank card from Perth on the Friday. It took 9 working days to get the new one. It took them till the following Thursday even before they ordered the thing.

No explanation, no apology for such rubbish service. So I dont care about the charges I'm going to open an account with Westpac who have local branches and dont do everything in Sydney and Singapore.

Nick
