How to watch UK programs in Oz?

Hey Guys!

Touched down in Melbourne yesterday and wondered if anyone knew if it were possible to watch UK TV online - Like iplayer / demand 5 ect?

I saw ages ago a thread on programs that change your IP to make them think your in the UK but cant find the thread - any info greatly appreciated! Trying to keep my 14 year old happy at being able to watch EastBenders!

I've tried most of the proxy and vpn servers, paid and free and they are so slow that it takes forever to watch anything. Just join thebox.bz download them in 10 minutes and watch then when convenient.

this works and its free.

you just d/l a file and run it - it goes strsight to the iplayer page too if you want. otherwise chose which channels player you want.

just remember to close it properly so it restores you browser settings.

Google "identity cloaker", it cost me4.95 euro for a ten day trial and I have been able to watch Iplayer, itv2 and 4OD successfully :)

www.eztv.it if you were minded to use torrents for all major shows the day of their release. So I've heard.

Not much UK stuff on there, looks like it is mostly US. You can watch US stuff on ch131.com no download needed.

Torrentday and uknova are great. If you like uk radio get a Kogan Internet radio once you are here. I know you can listen to the BBC on a pc but you feel so much more at home when you can listen to Radio 4 on an actual Radio, especially with a nice cuppa.

I can vouch for those Kogan Radios  I listen to LBC on ours.

That Hacked Cable site is damn interesting. Wheres channel 4 though ?

I also have had no problem with "the box' seems like a good site to me, and I've found shows there I couldnt find anywhere else.

Life was bloody difficult before they upped the data limits eh ? We are almost using up our 200 gig peak time limit now though. Might have to go back to using the scheduler on Utorrent to utilise the 200 gig off peak fully.

I'm having all sorts of trouble getting XBMC to do what I want, anyone on here an expert on it. Cant get the addons to work properly... I've failed to get a torrent gui working through it thus far... cant get Hulu to work through it either yet. the NZB's seem to work... (if only i had an account lol) Been trying both boxee and Xbmc for these addons. I wont be able to get rid of Foxtel if I cant use a single remote control to handle Net TV. All the add ons either dont work or the script fails. I'm going to go down the RSS route... never utilised those before.

Just to note that:
http://www.batteryshack.com.au/buffa...ay-p-1918.html

Are flogging off some Buffalo wireless routers at $29 at the mo

Put TomatoVPN on it, gift it to a relative still living in the UK to hang off their home network, and you can watch iPlayer, etc. just as well at those pay-for VPNs (better actually, since the IP isn't going to get banned).

XBoxers also use them for wireless access for their consoles.

I've got to sit down when I have a mythical free minute and work out how to route the PS3 via a static VPN tunnel. Then I can watch BBC TV on the TV, via the PS3.

Don't see anyway for them to spot that approach, providing everything goes via the tunnel. Just wish get_iPlayer was still working.

There is a limit of 103,000 users. I've not seen the sign up page active for a few months so they might be full!!

I have just downloaded Expat Shield and it is free. Seems to work ok.

Can anyone tell me how many GB I will need to watch maybe an hour night of BBC Iplayer? Do you use less if you live stream or is it better to download the programmes?

If you can help please could you reply in laymans terms as I am not really into computer jargon:thumbup:

Thanks

I've found iPlayer is about 0.5GB per hour, downloading rather than streaming can be a little less maybe 0.3GB per hour, depending on the method used to encode the show HD make a huge difference to the file size.

Hi,

I have just downloaded the expat shield as well and have been able to watch iplayer for the bbc and also itv's programmes online but it doesn't seem to work for the channel 4 content.

Anybody else have this problem?

Also is it possible to watch this on your tv rather than on the computer?

Cheers,
Mark.

I have not tried Channel 4 yet but I have been and bought a monitor lead and a sound lead so that I can watch it on the TV rather than the lap top screen. Haven't tied it out yet though - will do tonight to watch the Benidorm Christmas special. Will let you know how I go.

Re: How to watch UK programs in Oz?

I'm getting stutter with it... plus it was channel 4OD I was after, which I can confirm doesnt work.

Not sure why I'm getting stutter.... I'm supposed to have a 24 Mbs connection, which I've just tested at 16.5 Mbs.

Why would BBC and ITV work and not 4OD ?

Me too, off now to watch Little Britain 1 and 2 and Catherine Tate Christmas special (from last year) on the BBC player. My daughter is getting rid of Austar in the New Year so I downloaded it for her this morning and told her how to get her Corrie fix for free.

A few annoying pop up ads, but you can't complain as the programme is free. I actually get a better connection now than I did with Identity Cloaker.

Anybody able to access it with a different vpn?

Not sure about Expat Shield but 4OD on PS3 works using my VPN (hideipvpn).

Hi Freebo,

as I mentioned I am a bit of a tech muppet but does what you say mean you can watch the programmes on your tv this way through your PS3?
