Re: How Strange...
I've always been used to comparing relative times in terms of whole hours. A half hour multiple (for the want of a better word) seems hardly worth the hassle and scope for confusion. It looks like a half-measure designed to please everyone but satisfying few

And the whole of China has only 1 time zone with a larger land area than Australia.

I think India uses a half hour time zone as well.
I presume India and China have official time but also have local time in some places.

So maybe I shouldn't be hassling with the UK - RSA one/two hour time difference. I do find that during the UK winter time I telephone my dad less often during the week because by the time dinner is over etc and I've had a chance to think of phoning him it's probably too late as he's likely to have already gone to bed. Aus is going to be much worse. SWMBO has no problems with it though. She'd be on the phone 24 hours if the batteries didn't give up on her so timezones are irrelevant once she gets going. Thankfully our calls to Aus are free

Adelaide being ahead of Brissie in summer defeats me, not that it affects me any, just seems bizarre. Go shopping in NSW is odd too. Leave the house at 10am and get there at 11:15, do what needs doing and get home at 10:40. Life shouldn't be that hard
