Thanks guys, ECP sounds good. I'll look in to it when we arrive in Oz on Friday!
I feel a bit like a "dole bludger" entering the country and getting a referral from the GP straight away but my hubbie needs physio indefinitely so the cost will mount up.
We're bringing all the doctors & surgeons info from the UK re; his knee so hopefully that will be sufficient to prove hes had the condition 6 months.

hey... mrs kiwi... i am the OT in hervey bay hospital... the best thing to do is,... get a referral from your GP for phsyio in hervey bay hospital... and in the hospital... we have balance groups and out patient physio who treats these kind of case loads.. and there are no session limits and its medicare...

When I broke my ankle, I needed some physio after the cast was removed, and my doctor sent me to the local hospital for physio at no charge, under medicare.
I could have gone private and paid, but I preferred the free option.
I doubt I was classed under the ECP scheme.
It is a puzzle, as the Medicare site does say :
