Gas 52.00
Electric 110.00
Water 60.00
Phone + 2 mobiles 200.00
Broadband 70.00
Foxtel 76.00
Contents & building insurance 80.00
Rates 110.00
Shopping 1,000.00 (usually more like 1200)
Car Insurance 70.00
TOTAL 1,828.00
Obviously this doesn't include mortgage/petrol/beers/going out/daycare/school fees/clothes and you can generally work on each $100k you borrow is $700 per month. It's not cheap to live here by any means, especially when you earn an average wage of about $1000 per week.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, very informative. I notice that the replies were both from Perth, would you expect the bills to come out the same for Adelaide? The other cost I am interested in is when purchasing a house (up to $400000) solicitors, stamp duty etc.

cheers for the info everyone, very helpful. Doesnt seem that cheap when you add it up but still a lot cheaper than the uk especially when they fit the tags to our cars and start charging us for moving them in our driveways!!!!!!!
Judging by the last thread, I think I'm going to knock the chicken and coke on the head as that will save a fair bit.
You can buy a whole bernard mathews turkey in the uk for next to nothing at the moment.........very good value for money!!
